Crossing Guard

Salary:  $ 7.15 Hourly

Position Summary:

Under the direction of the assigned supervisor work at assigned intersections to ensure the safety and protection of children crossing roads on the way to school.

Major Duties and Responsibilities Summary:

1. Stop on-coming traffic and escort children across street.
2. Place and remove school crossing and reduced speed signs at assigned intersection before and after shift.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. High school diploma or GED preferred.
2. Any combination of education and experience which provides the knowledge, abilities, and skills required for the specific position.
3. Ability to learn traffic laws and basic concepts of safety.
4. Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
5. Ability to communicate with children.
6. Ability to use discretion and judgement in all circumstances.
7. Ability to work with minimal direct supervision.

Screening and Compliance:

The offer of this Bernalillo County position requires compliance with the following:

1. Employee must successfully complete the post-offer employment medical and background examination.
2. Employee must comply with the safety guidelines of the County.
3. Employee must have means of transportation to assigned work site.
4. Employee must pass an oral board examination.

Working Conditions:

1. Duties are performed outdoors.
2. Worker is exposed to natural weather conditions. Working in adverse weather conditions is required.
3. Worker is exposed to intermittent noise from traffic.
4. Worker is exposed to exhaust fumes.
5. Work is performed on paved or dirt roads, concrete, natural ground, ice or snow. Surfaces may be wet or dry. Work surfaces may be even or inclined.
6. Work hazards include vehicle traffic and exposure to fumes.

Equipment, Tools, and Materials:

1. Equipment typically used in the performance of duties include traffic control signs, safety vest and whistle.
