Central State University, one of the nation’s premier Historically Black Universities, seeks an experience person for the following position:
Director of Public Safety & Chief of Police
JOB SUMMARY:
Directs the activities of the University Police & EMS departments.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for the daily operations of the Police & Safety department.
- Provides planning, programming, operations, delivery of services, advice and counsel in all areas related to Police & Safety.
- Supervises staff, including making recommendations for staffing, conducting performance evaluations, addressing disciplinary matters, assigning work, etc.
- Serves as university and community representative in regards to matters involving Police & Safety.
- Directs the Planning, infrastructure, quality improvement, marketing and productivity of Police & Safety.
- Manages the EMS Director and oversees all administrative operations of the EMS.
- Serves as the University’s liaison with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies and court systems.
- Enforces all federal, state, and city laws and ordinances, and University specific policies.
- Directs the hiring of Police Officers and coordinating academy training.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
QUALIFYING FACTORS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- A clear operational understanding of higher education culture and excellent planning and organizational skills.
- A demonstrated ability to lead and manage an academic environment and to communicate clearly, effectively, and collegially.
- Enthusiasm and ability to successfully engage, motivate, and interact with the University community.
SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education:
- B.S. in Criminal Justice, Business Administration, and completion of the Police Academy.
Experience:
- 3 -5 years administrative experience.
- 5 -10 years law enforcement experience with a law enforcement agency.
